Focus On What You Can Control

May 10, 2023 | The Journey

Have you ever experienced a situation that was already somewhat stressful, and on top of that you find yourself worrying about the things that are beyond your control?

I, personally, have many that I can think of but today I want to relate it to what I’m currently experiencing.  As you know, I am STILL going through the SBA loan process in an effort to acquire the capital necessary to fund my dream.  For the most part, I can say that I have been handling this process quite well.  What do I mean by that?  Everything has been moving with ease, I have not been stressed out over the process like last year, I have FULL confidence in knowing that it will work out in my favor, and I have a peace that I can’t explain and for this I am grateful!

Well, of course, there has to be something that tries to throw me off focus.  I am at the very end of the process, and when I say “the end” what I mean is I EXPECT to receive my commitment letter any day now from the banker.  {yes, I’m still believing that it’s already done}    Well, just yesterday I found out that there is someone interested in my potential location (yes, MY space).  No doubt, I’m still believing that things will work out in my favor & I’m remembering how far we’ve come but somehow I found myself thinking about this situation over and over again.

To make it even more interesting this was my response to the realtor before we got off the call  “I’m not worried.  I know that things will work out.  There’s no doubt in my mind.”  I told her those exact words on the phone so why did I still find myself thinking about what she said over and over again???  Wondering if, by chance, the interest of the other individual will affect me negatively in some way?!  Y’all, as much as I don’t want to admit it I know a bit of worry was creeping up in my mind & spirit!  Listen, do not worry about the things we can’t control!  Focus only on what you can control!

It’s so easy to allow “things” to distract us especially when you’re 100% committed to your goals but we have to remind ourselves from time to time that what’s for you will be for you no matter what & believe it or not I tell myself this quite often!  Focusing on things beyond our control only makes matters worse and will always lead to worry, doubt, and frustration.  I’m so thankful I didn’t allow myself to stay there.  I remembered the promise that God gave me, re-focused my attention, and said a prayer because that always works!  Now, I can continue on with expectancy and a deep level of focus on the things within my control to keep the ball rolling, nothing else!

My encouragement to you today, be grateful for how far you’ve come and know that every step you take is getting you closer to your end goal.  Situations will arise that try to distract you & test your courage but stay strong to your calling!  Focus on what you can control & let God handle the rest!

See you next week!  #Believe
